LCA strategy
By definition, collaboration means partnering with those outside of LCA. Collaboration implies a team approach with communication and interaction between all the parties. There will be different projects, locations, stakeholders and constraints affecting the various types of collaboration such as:
1. Design Consultants : project-based, professionals such as engineers, landscape architects, interior designers, industrial designers, quantity surveyors etc. and even other architects
2. Construction companies: as building contractors for a tendered project or as a design-build team
3. Manufacturers: for a given project or targeted sector (ie long term technical advice for products)
4. Authorities with jurisdiction: municipal, regional and national bodies
5. The Public: as product users or suppliers of services.
In this short video, the principal of LCA’s Ottawa office outlines the company collaboration technology strategy for a typical project-based system derived after market research:

Public collaboration: exploring the technology of crowdsourcing and crowdfunding
LCA approached Ideavibes in Ottawa to explore ways of engaging the public for collaboration. Ideavibes is a marketing company that created a Crowd Engagement Platform to enable organizations like LCA to tap into crowdsourcing and crowdfunding. Here is the summary of the company’s approach (direct from www.ideavibes.com):
The Idea: The world needs BIG ideas. It also needs bite-sized ideas that are easy to understand and support. More than ever, consumers, citizens and donors are attracted to providing input into the projects, brands and communities that they feel a part of. They expect to be able to make a direct and visible impact on things that matter personally to them. Ideavibes believes there is a way to get the crowd involved that encourages more people to participate than just the most vocal.
The Crowd: Start a new project, set a new direction, become more customer focused, fund an initiative or spark social change: Ideavibes™ makes it simple for organizations to channel the wisdom of crowds into productive ideas or change that matters.
The Platform: Ideavibes has developed the first hosted Crowd Engagement Platform™ that is designed to allow organizations to frame engagement in a way that creates greater stakeholder, customer, citizen or donor engagement. The Platform is also the first to give organizations the power to create crowdsourcing or crowdfunding campaigns from a single, easy to use control panel.
In this video, LCA asks Ideavibes CEO and company president Paul Dombowsky :
1. What is crowdsourcing and how can ideavibes work with LCA to identify services that could be outsourced in this way?
2. How can LCA engage the public in issues of architecture and development?
